Mahesh Navmi is an event where MMUK families come together to celebrate the birth of the Maheshwari lineage. On Mahesh Navmi we worship lord Shiva and seek his blessings for whole community.
This year unlike past two years MMUK team came up with an idea of celebrating it on boat whilst travelling on the iconic Thames. MMUK came up with the idea of a ‘Nautical’ theme to tie in with the venue.
With tremendous response to the event theme event team was very excited to give their best. With rounds of volunteer meetings, the day of 07-Jul arrived. Preparations started early to ensure the event is fun and exceeded expectations. All core committee team members were wearing Captain hat to encourage the theme.
Upon completion of registration, and distribution of snacks, all boarded the cruise ship. MMUK team welcomed aboard lot of new members in the MMUK family and got everyone involved through games or pictures.
Anchors were fully prepared to host the event and it began with Mahesh Vandana, a ghee lamp was lit by the event chief guest Shri Sharad ji Chandak (CEO, SBI UK). This was followed by a fantastic Mahesh Vandana dance performance, for the first time.
MMUK team shared Patron Programme updates with wider community with an announcement of chosen charity “Maheshwari Shikshan Vikas Sanstha”, Nanded that supports the needy Maheshwari students in pursuing their studies.
After, this followed the games separated into four categories i.e. kids, teens, adult men and adult women. Games were hosted by our event host and was well controlled with support of volunteers. All games were full of fun and always ends with a winner. Some on-spot questions with gifts made event more interactive. All volunteers who made this event the best, received a token of appreciation, this promotes more involvement from new MMUK community members. In between, everyone took timeout to go outside and with help of MMUK team photography volunteer team, took loads of photos. Networked in nice breeze and sunny day making lot of meeting plans in near future before the next event
All this grew the appetites and was curtly (and correctly) followed by lunch. Lunch wow! was a real combination of Chinese food with Indian spice, which was followed by India special sweet – Gulab Jamun.
Next, came the part of the event which was free for all to come in and enjoy. The DJ was blasting songs and the dance area had been occupied to the rim with dancers from 4 years old to the eldest. Imagine a DJ who always played English songs played Hindi item numbers and made all rock the floor. The temptation was inevitable that made dance floor looked small than ideally it is.
As there is end to everything, this event had to finish. Boat came back to Festive Pier, went stand still everyone was greeted by the event coordinator and MMUK committee members. Water bottles were distributed to everyone as it was hot and everyone was tired.
I must say the involvement of MMUK community to make event a success has been remarkable. We missed few MMUK community members this event, want them not to miss upcoming long-awaited DIWALI event!!
On this node…. time to say SEE YOU SOON!!
