MMUK DIGITAL DIWALI EVENT 2020

We are very happy to write about our MMUK Digital Diwali event 2020. Following the government guidelines this year’s event took place online on Zoom virtually during the pandemic. We had more than 55+ families attended the event from the comfort of their own homes.

Keeping with our tradition of giving opportunity to MMUK youth, to engage in our community, our hosts of this event were Miss Sneha Daga, Year 10 student, and Master Arnav Maniyar, Year 9 student, both from Leeds.

The event began with an introduction of our hosts and a brief introduction of our sponsors SBI UK, DNS Accountants, Future Bricks and Vita Vero. To know more about our sponsors, please visit the MMUK website and click on their logo, or you can go to the bottom of the page.

Following this the 56 Chappan Bhog were offered to Lord Krishna virtually on their respective screens. Everyone held their bhogs in front of their cameras and a screenshot was taken.

Then, to keep our tradition intact, MMUK requested Shri Badrilal ji Chechani and Shrimati Kantaji Chechani (parents of Lokesh ji Chechani) to conduct Annakut Aarti.

Then MMUK President, Shri Ramnareshji Sonee delivered President’s note thanking the sponsors and all Patrons who came forward to support underprivileged Maheshwari Students back home via Maheshwari Shikshan Sanstha, Nanded. He shared few words highlighting some of the charity update and certainly expressing his delight on being able to connect virtually.

Then it was about time for the most awaited part of the evening: Housie! Also known as Bingo and Tombola, our hosts proceeded to call out numbers and 11 prizes were announced. All the numbers were also posted in the chat and the prize winners were announced during the game. We had couple of surprise prizes, one for the best dressed family, and another one randomly selected from an online spinner. All in all, it was a very fun game!

Following the bingo MMUK Secretary, Madhusudanji Kabra said his vote of thanks and invited everyone to stay for some friendly chit chat. Following brief introductions the virtual dance floor was opened and singing and dancing flooded, with enthusiastic members being spotlighted on Zoom.

We would like to thank everyone who was involved and participated in this year’s event. It was extremely enjoyable and was possible due to the work of the organizing committee, along with the hosts, both inside and outside the event. Diwali is mega event of MMUK and all community members were looking forward to it. Everyone was able to end the evening joyfully and with the sense of proud for community.

MMUK would like to thanks all the participants, committee members, our anchors Sneha & Arnav and volunteers Kumar Maheshwari, Kaushal Somani and Mrs. Shraddha Maheshwari for making the event successful.

Lastly Merry Christmas and Happy new year to all

STAY SAFE

Warm regards,

Team MMUK

MMUK Digital Mahesh Navmi 2020

Jai Mahesh Jai Shri Krishna,
Despite the ongoing troubles with the Covid-19 pandemic, the MMUK team with everyone’s participation together pulled off a spectacular Digital Mahesh Navmi event, bringing together our Maheshwari Parivar all across the UK. We rejoiced in the origins of Maheshwaris as one big family over Zoom and Facebook Live, enjoying the incredible talents our community has to offer. There was an overwhelming level of participation: over 50 families joined our celebration of culture, dance and music through 30+ entries. Let us take this opportunity to run you through our programme and leave you stunned with the phenomenal talent we have on display:

The event was started by anchor Amartya Maheshwari of Birmingham, who is currently studying at Cambridge University.

To inaugurate our auspicious event, we invited the parents of Shri Pravinji Soni from Midland Chapter, Shri Jugalkishorji Soni and Sow. Pushpaji Soni to perform the Deep Prajvalan and Aarti. Samraat Sonee, Age7 beautifully accompanied this by beautifully singing the Mahesh Vandana which he learnt during this time of quarantine.

President and Treasurer Words
This was then followed by the President’s words. MMUK President Ramnareshji Sonee informed us on developments in MMUK and specially the charity work undertaken by MMUK in collaboration with RAUK and The Akshaya Patra Foundation to serve Covid-19 affected across the UK.

MMUK is now recognized as a charity organisation with the Charity commission UK which is a huge milestone achieved after long and hard work towards it. This means, as Deepakji Kabra (Treasurer) explained, that we can work full speed towards our long term charitable goals. This would not have been possible without the present and past MMUK team’s daunting work.
As this family grows we also want to think of continuation and a succession plan. To this a new Whatsapp group “MMUK Youth Connect” has been launched recently. This group will be run and organized by MMUK Youth’s ( 12 to 25yrs old) and will be key in supporting and organizing events in future. We want to ask all parents to encourage their children in the aforementioned age group to join this group.
The MMUK Youth Group has already started its active participation and was certainly shown by the youth who sent a wide variety of bubbly talents, dances and acts.

Firstly we had all our Maheshwaris stand up and pay respects to our beloved country singing along to Samraat Sonee’s sweetly sung National Anthem.

Then, it was over to reporter Tarun Naodhar who interviewed our adorable MMUK Kids to give their cute and cheeky comments on the Corona Virus pandemic.
Little Feet, Little Hands & Family Fun

This was followed by some energetic extempore dances by the kids – full potential for future choreographer here! The TikToks, music and magic performances were also full of energy, inspiration and laughs as the kids showed off their quarantine escapades.
https://youtu.be/lIQPuJDnHYY – Hanuman Chalisa

Special mention to Mayank Jagetia for an impressive, non-stop Hanuman Chalisa which the Zoom viewers sung along to melodiously (for most parts :))
https://youtu.be/5q9P4PxP2dY – MMUK Youth Connect

Then it was MMUK Youth’s time to shine – From art to barbeques to acrobats – every talent you can think of was on display and it really shows that while this pandemic may have closed some doors there’s always the opportunity to learn and do new things. Special thanks to Lokeshji Chechani and Nimai Jajoo for spending hours behind the screen and editing all these videos into one big compilation.
https://youtu.be/PKv6Awrx6Xk – Bhavikaji Soni

https://youtu.be/kdXaVm6a5Gk – Rejutaji Jeswan

By this point the crowd was already star-struck by the enthusiasm and talent on offer. Now add on another beautiful dance by Bhavika Soni & Rejuta Jeswan

https://youtu.be/wN-3_Tafi9k – Meghaji Zavar – Sitar and a soul-touching rendition of Ghoomar on the Sitar by Meghaji Zavar. These performances left us extremely excited to see what we, the MMUK Youth and Kids and do in the future to push the boundaries of MMUK.
https://youtu.be/MEOas-H49-I Dineshji Sodani

https://youtu.be/dNNKDppOl2M Rahulji Naodhar

Adults didn’t fail to impress either. While Dineshji Sodani and Rahulji Naodhar poetically conveyed the bittersweet “troubles” during these last couple of months, others chose to channel their inner Prabhu Deva through creative, exciting family dances in their kitchens and living rooms.
https://youtu.be/IyrkrcJEQCo – MMUK Girls – Dance it Away – Brent & Harrow. MMUK Girls in particular stole the show with their quarantine collab on “Kudi Nu Nachne De” leaving the audience jaw-dropped. The Tiktok grind did not stop as MMUK took the stage to try and become Tiktok Famous with their Oh Na Na Challenges.

https://youtu.be/ulnitlH718E – Surajji Rathi – Cutest Prank – Greenwich. The cutest prank by Surajji Rathi on his adorable daughter by shaving off his entire beard (10/10 for commitment to the video) and pretending to take her away.

https://youtu.be/ulIfE2TGIDU – Mehika Bajaj – Food-aholic TikTok fun by Mehika Bajaj
https://youtu.be/btvohQrwoVI – Sumitraji Dargar – Quilling Art
Sumitra ji Dargar blew the audience away with the Quilling Art she produced during quarantine, from Rakhis to Ganeshji to a Peacock. can only imagine the time and effort behind each piece of art, so hats off to Sumitraji! We also had some breathtaking art pieces to further emphasize the buckets of talent we have within our Maheshwari community.

https://youtu.be/btvohQrwoVI – Aparnaji Bang – Love for Drawing & Paintings
https://youtu.be/II7qHWuNfSo Paintings by Reenaji jagetia, Ayansh Jagetia, Age 3, Mayank Jagetia, Age 9, Mehika Bajaj, Swatiji Bhatti Maheshwari, Vanne Maheshwari & Vachan Maheshwari, Age 10
https://youtu.be/ZC6buoMqSA8 – Housie Cricket

We also had a brilliant 20-20 Housie where more than 15 Maheshwari families came together with their creative team names to showcase the camaraderie and sporting spirit within our community to raise money towards a charitable cause.

https://youtu.be/PLJrCW7ELIY – Dhwani Band

Finally, to finish off our Digital Mahesh Navmi in style and elegance, we had the incredible group Dhwani performing heart-touching songs and bhajans from India brought to MMUK by Arunji Mundra from Houston as a beautiful surprise. When we say incredible, we don’t give them enough credit – being able to make every Zoom participant 5000 miles away hum and sing along to a computer screen – unbelievable! Their retro remixes and acapellas in particular were beautiful and we can’t wait to see them perform live soon at a future MMUK event.

Before signing off, Dineshji Sodani heartily expressed his vote of thanks. Whole team did an incredible job in adapting to the difficult circumstances and taking the initiative to bring together over 150 people on such a special day for our community. Our participants too made the most of the Zoom and Facebook Live chat in making it a light-hearted, warm evening.

Again a big thanks to all participants, volunteers, committee members who made this event possible in short timelines.

I was also pleased to know that Sow Monica ji Nachiket ji Chandak, Qualified Cosmetic Chemist, produced sanitizer at her unit, and distributed to MMUK community (who requested) at cost price in those initial days of pandemic where sanitizer was not easy to find.

Surbhi Somani’s Imam Bayildi (Stuffed Eggplant Turkish Recipe)

Ingredients
• 5 medium eggplants
• 3 tbsp. / 45 ml olive oil
• 6 tomatoes, peeled and chopped roughly
• 1 large onion, chopped finely
• 4 garlic cloves, chopped finely
• 1 tsp ground cinnamon
• a pinch of nutmeg
• ½ tsp sea salt + more to taste
• freshly ground pepper, to taste
• handful of fresh parsley
• 2 tbsp. of fresh dill
• 1 tsp brown sugar (I used brown, unrefined)
• 2 tbsp. pine nuts, dry roasted
• Some grated cheese

Method
Preheat the oven to 230 º C / 450 º F.
Using a sharp knife, make deep slits in the aubergines, lengthwise (be careful not to pierce them all the way to the bottom). Fit the aubergines into a baking tray (slit side up) and pre-bake them for 30 minutes.
While the aubergines are baking, make the sauce. Heat up 1 and ½ tbsp olive oil in a pan. Add chopped onions and fry them gently until soft and translucent. Add chopped garlic to the onions and fry them off for another minute or two. Add cinnamon and coat the onion & garlic mixture in it. Set aside.
After 30 minutes, take pre-baked aubergines out of the oven and place them on a colander (in the sink) and let the excess water drain off. Reduce oven temperature to 180 º C / 355 º F
Once aubergines have drained and cooled off, scoop some of their flesh out to make room for the stuffing. Chop scooped out aubergine flesh finely and add to the onion and garlic mixture, together with chopped tomatoes. Fry it all off gently until tomatoes lose their moisture and you get a thick sauce. Season with sugar, salt and pepper. Add most of fresh parsely and dill (reserve a little for garnish.
Lightly salt the inside of scooped aubergines and fill them with the tomato mixture.Snugly place them in an oven-proof dish and pour the rest of tomato mixture to the bottom of the dish with 1 and ½ tbsp. of olive oil and 40 ml of water
Cover the tray with a piece of kitchen foil and bake in a 180 degree oven for about 20 minutes.Serve warm or at room temperature, sprinkled with fresh dill or parsley and roasted pine nuts and some cheese if you wish.

Jai Mahesh

It gives us immense pleasure to write about our fantastic MMUK Diwali 2019 event which took place at the beautiful The VIP Lounge, Edgware. There has been an overwhelming response since we announced the programme and the theme. With 21 rocking performance entries from our community talent pool, with helping hands to get guests registered and to support the programme in various ways.

Mahesh Navmi – London Boat Party 2019

Mahesh Navmi is an event where MMUK families come together to celebrate the birth of the Maheshwari lineage. On Mahesh Navmi we worship lord Shiva and seek his blessings for whole community.

This year unlike past two years MMUK team came up with an idea of celebrating it on boat whilst travelling on the iconic Thames. MMUK came up with the idea of a ‘Nautical’ theme to tie in with the venue.

With tremendous response to the event theme event team was very excited to give their best. With rounds of volunteer meetings, the day of 07-Jul arrived. Preparations started early to ensure the event is fun and exceeded expectations. All core committee team members were wearing Captain hat to encourage the theme.

Upon completion of registration, and distribution of snacks, all boarded the cruise ship. MMUK team welcomed aboard lot of new members in the MMUK family and got everyone involved through games or pictures.

Anchors were fully prepared to host the event and it began with Mahesh Vandana, a ghee lamp was lit by the event chief guest Shri Sharad ji Chandak (CEO, SBI UK). This was followed by a fantastic Mahesh Vandana dance performance, for the first time.

MMUK team shared Patron Programme updates with wider community with an announcement of chosen charity “Maheshwari Shikshan Vikas Sanstha”, Nanded that supports the needy Maheshwari students in pursuing their studies.

After, this followed the games separated into four categories i.e. kids, teens, adult men and adult women. Games were hosted by our event host and was well controlled with support of volunteers. All games were full of fun and always ends with a winner. Some on-spot questions with gifts made event more interactive. All volunteers who made this event the best, received a token of appreciation, this promotes more involvement from new MMUK community members. In between, everyone took timeout to go outside and with help of MMUK team photography volunteer team, took loads of photos. Networked in nice breeze and sunny day making lot of meeting plans in near future before the next event

All this grew the appetites and was curtly (and correctly) followed by lunch. Lunch wow! was a real combination of Chinese food with Indian spice, which was followed by India special sweet – Gulab Jamun.

Next, came the part of the event which was free for all to come in and enjoy. The DJ was blasting songs and the dance area had been occupied to the rim with dancers from 4 years old to the eldest. Imagine a DJ who always played English songs played Hindi item numbers and made all rock the floor. The temptation was inevitable that made dance floor looked small than ideally it is.

As there is end to everything, this event had to finish. Boat came back to Festive Pier, went stand still everyone was greeted by the event coordinator and MMUK committee members. Water bottles were distributed to everyone as it was hot and everyone was tired.

I must say the involvement of MMUK community to make event a success has been remarkable. We missed few MMUK community members this event, want them not to miss upcoming long-awaited DIWALI event!!

On this node…. time to say SEE YOU SOON!!

Family Holidays
We asked parents to engage their youngsters and send a write-up on their memorable ‘ Family Holiday’. This section is featuring those write-ups.

Master Yashay Maheshwari, Age: 8 1/2 years

Master Samraat Sonee, Age: 6 1/2 years

Aayush Darak, Age 14 yr
Neither my holiday was visiting exotic places such as Dubai or Greece nor was it about trying new hobbies such as skiing. My summer holiday was visiting the same places I have been to over the previous years. You must be thinking, why would you visit the same place more than twice, there are many other places I could have gone to? Nevertheless, this was special to me and I will always remember as one of the best trips that I have experienced. This time I went with my grandparents who came over to spend the summer with me and my family. So here goes the story…

On Thursday, we went to the airport. When we got there, we started scrolling the bags to the desk where they check the passports. We had our dinner at the airport and entered the flight which was for 2 hours. When we reached Rome airport, we went to the desk again to show the passports and got our bags and pram. We went to the hotel from airport.

Next morning on Friday, after having breakfast, we started our sightseeing in Rome. Firstly, we visited the Vatican. There we saw a gallery of ancient pictures of Rome. We also visited Sistine Chapel where we had to be quiet as it is a church. On the walls, we saw loads of paintings, Jesus on the cross and lots of candles. Later, we saw the St Peter’s Basilica. We saw a big church there and huge paintings and statues. Later we had dinner and rested.

Next day, we had breakfast and went to see Colosseum. When we arrived at Colosseum, we took pictures. Later in the day, we visited various famous places in Rome with lots of fountains and monuments.

Next day was Sunday and last day of our trip. We had our breakfast and then we got out of the hotel and went to see Spanish steps. Then we went to a cafe and had some cake. From there, we got a sketch done of me and my little brother. Later, we saw Trevi fountain, it is a beautiful fountain. Then we went to hotel to get our bags and then left for the airport to return back to London. We scrolled the bags to the desk to show our passports, after 2 hours we were in the plane and reached London. Then we went to the desk again and we went in the taxi to home. And our memorable trip to Rome ended!

Master Aarav Jain, Age 5 years
Memorable Holiday at Legoland

In summer holidays I went to Legoland and loved it because I love Legos. I was amazed to see the Mclaren car which was made of 500,000 lego pieces. I wish to make a bigger lego figure one day.

We all went on a boat ride which I enjoyed first but later I felt that I was nearly going to fall down. I also enjoyed the spinning cup ride with my friends and family.

Then we went to miniature land where I found many cities which were really tiny. The miniature land was very educational.

The water rides and ice cream made me feel cool on that hot sunny day. In the afternoon sun came out and nearly washed off my spider man tattoo.

It was the best outing ever because I love legos and I was able to see dinosaurs, cars, superheroes made out of Legos.

She Is Gone
A poem by David Harkins shared by Noble and Shreerupa Laturia in the loving memory of their mothers & the sister:

You can shed tears that she is gone

Or you can smile because she has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back

Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her

Or you can be full of the love that you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday

Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday

You can remember her and only that she is gone

Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back

Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

FRIENDSHIP

When your life is in tatters

It’s the friendship that matters

When sad moments give me a blow

And when I am feeling low

And I have nowhere to go

Then I come to you

You make my face glow

All the moments that we share

The friendship comes at no fare

Yet it’s the most priceless layer

Two vital ingredients, Trust and Care

Friends like you are truly Rare

You have dried my tears

Because of you, I have no fears

I’ve have always shared,

and candidly declared

From the start to the end
